An Unorthodox Path To Law School And Beyond
My family never pushed me to go into law, and from the single-parent family I grew up in, college was not even on the horizon. But I was an argumentative kid and loved standing up for others against injustice. When I worked my way into college all on my own, a friend introduced me to a law class, and I was hooked.
I have never lost track of that trajectory, however, and what life is like for families of all social, cultural, and economic backgrounds. So when I fight for you, it isn’t for glory or political fame (I put that sort of thing behind me a long time ago) but for your ability to get by after an accident and still someday put a kid through college who can go on and defend another generation of accident victims.
A Legal Philosophy That Puts Knowledge First
When I was in seventh grade, I tried my first legal case. It may have been a mock trial of a character from a book, but I took it very seriously and was quite upset when I lost despite all my eloquent arguments and an aggressive defense, my “client” was deemed guilty of murder.
It took until law school for me to learn that, in fact, I should have won. I convinced some, but not all of the “jurors,” and in Georgia, such a verdict has to be unanimous.
I learned since, many times over, that it isn’t a notion of justice, a strong voice, or a compelling point that wins cases; it is knowledge. Knowledge of the law, of the situation, of every little detail of the case and each side’s interests and background.
When an ordinary person like you goes to court or up against an insurance company, it isn’t your earnestness or aggression that will win you a better result. You need knowledge, and that is where I step in to even the playing field and give you a fighting chance.
